      Fire safety includes a complex of measures designed to minimize the risk of fire and fire mitigation.
      Fire detection and signaling systems are one of the most common measures of fire safety, based on pre-fire or fire characteristic phenomena detection, in its early stages and signaling the fire alarm before it can produce major effects.

      There are various commercially available fire detection technologies and the most common are:
      • Temperature increaseing detection by determining the temperature surplus or a predetermined increase in temperature speeds
      • Smoke detection by optical analysis or ionization chamber
      • The presence of carbon monoxide detection
      • Fire detection analysis by ultraviolet or infrared spectrum.

      A fire alarm and detection system can be interconnected with other equipments to limit fire spread, most of which are:
      • Door closing separation
      • Automatic lock ventilation and / or disconnection of electricity supply, gas, etc..
      • Warning people equipments and their disposal facilities;
      • Smoke ejection equipment.

      For cases in which a fire can quickly assess, or to protect special values, the use of automatic fire-fighting facilities are recommended. They are composed by a fire detection subsystem and an extinguishing subsystem, respectively, based on issuing a fire extinguishing agent in the area. Among the fighting mediums, the most commercially available are:
      • Water spray;
      • Different types of gases (carbon dioxide, FM 200, Novec, Inergen, Argonite etc.);
      • Foam;
      • Aerosols.

      The European Union harmonized standards EN54 family are in place.
